Youth Ministry, grades 9-12
Youth Ministry at Sacred Heart Parish is constantly adapting to the needs of the youth in our parish community. Part of this process involves creating a lasting curriculum that both forms the faith of the youth and allows them the space needed to form intentional Christian community with one another. At the heart of the new curriculum are three pillars:
Curriculum Organization:
Week 1: Service & Prayer
Weeks 2 and 3: Scripture & Theology
Week 4: Community Building
Service & Prayer Component:
These weeks will be dedicated to a structured prayer experience (Adoration, Stations of the Cross, Praying the Rosary, Lectio Divina, Meditative Prayer, Petitionary Prayer, etc.). These prayer experiences will be tied to acts of service either on that day or sometime during the week. These service opportunities will be open to 7th-12th graders when allowable by Safe Environment procedures.
Scripture & Theology Component:
These sessions will be dedicated to a methodical movement through the Bible in addition to lessons that will highlight specific theological themes for deeper reflection and discussion. These sessions will utilize the best available resources to provide content in a fun and engaging way. The purpose of these sessions will primarily be to meet teens where they are at in their faith and address questions on their heart within the context of their peers. When appropriate, Youth Ministry groups will be split between 9th/10th and 11th/12th groups to provide for more focused discussions and lessons. Occasionally, these sessions will be divided by gender in order to appropriately address sensitive topics.
Community Building Component:
These sessions will be dedicated almost exclusively to providing an atmosphere for community building such as cookouts, hiking trips, game watches, combined activities with Faith & Light, men’s & women’s group bonding and discussion. Some events will be combined with 7th & 8th grade; other events will be exclusively for high school students.
