We have an immediate opening for a "Church Facilities and Ground Maintenance" position at Sacred Heart Parish.


Church Facilities & Grounds Maintenance

Position Type: Part-Time / Full-Time
Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado (on-site)


Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable, hardworking individual to help maintain the cleanliness, appearance, and general upkeep of our church facilities and grounds. The primary focus of this position will be janitorial and landscaping, along with routine minor maintenance and assisting with larger maintenance and improvement projects as needed.

The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, is dependable, pays attention to detail, and is comfortable working independently while also being willing to work as part of a team.


Primary Responsibilities:


Cleaning & Janitorial:

  • Clean and maintain church buildings, classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas.
  • Vacuum, sweep, mop, dust, and sanitize surfaces.
  • Clean and restock restrooms and other facility supplies.
  • Empty trash and recycling.
  • Help maintain a clean and welcoming environment for church members, staff, and visitors.
  • Perform additional cleaning before or after special events and church activities.


Landscaping & Grounds:

  • Mow and maintain lawns and grass areas.
  • Trim and maintain trees, bushes, and other landscaping.
  • Pull weeds, maintain flower beds, and perform seasonal landscaping tasks.
  • Keep sidewalks, entrances, parking areas, and outdoor spaces clean and presentable.
  • Assist with snow and ice removal as needed.
  • Maintain and properly care for landscaping tools and equipment.


Minor Maintenance:

  • Perform basic repairs and general upkeep throughout the church and property.
  • Handle minor painting, patching, hardware replacement, and other basic maintenance tasks.
  • Replace light bulbs and perform other simple facility upkeep.
  • Identify maintenance issues and report larger problems when professional assistance is needed.
  • Help keep maintenance areas, tools, and supplies organized.


Larger Projects & General Support:

  • Assist church staff and contractors with larger maintenance, repair, landscaping, and improvement projects.
  • Help move furniture, equipment, supplies, and materials when needed.
  • Assist with setup and cleanup for church events and special projects.
  • Perform other reasonable facilities and grounds duties as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as requested.


Education: High School Diploma or equivalent


Transportation Requirements: This position requires travel between multiple locations. Employees must have reliable personal transportation and maintain a clean driving record. Mileage for approved work-related travel will be reimbursed at the applicable mileage rate.


Qualifications:

  • Dependable and punctual.
  • Understanding and respect for working in a Catholic Church environment.
  • Takes pride in maintaining clean, safe, and attractive facilities.
  • Able to work independently and manage routine tasks.
  • Comfortable performing physical work, including lifting, bending, standing, walking, climbing ladders, and working outdoors.
  • Availability to be on-call for emergencies
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning, landscaping, and general maintenance.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and assist with projects outside of routine duties.
  • Ability to safely operate basic hand tools and landscaping equipment.
  • Previous janitorial, landscaping, maintenance, or facilities experience is preferred but not required.

Because this position is within a church environment, we are looking for someone who is respectful, trustworthy, helpful, and able to work well with church staff, volunteers, parishioners, and visitors. The person in this role should understand that maintaining the property is an important part of creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for the church community.


Salary Range: $18 - $22 /hour DOE
