Children's Faith Formation

Children's Faith Formation: Grades Kindergarten- 7

Children's Faith Formation Mission

The mission for Children's Faith Formation at Sacred Heart Parish is to assist parents in their primary responsibility as educators in the faith. This is accomplished by journeying with their children as they develop a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ through learning about Jesus with classroom discussions, exploration of Scripture, rich multimedia content, and fun games and crafts.

Faith Formation Classes

Faith Formation classes for children (grades Kindergarten-7) are held weekly, September 8, 2024 through April 27, 2025 on Sundays from 10:10-11:25 am. Parents are encouraged to participate in Adult Faith Formation opportunities throughout the week, especially on Sunday, in order to grow together as a family in the faith.

For questions or inquiries about Sacred Heart Parish's Children’s Faith Formation program, please contact Cathy Kusman-Kelly, Faith Formation Director, at 719-633-8711 x105 or email formationdirector@sacredheartcos.org.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Children (RCIC)

If you have a child interested in becoming Catholic or completing their initiation into the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and/or Eucharist, please contact Cathy Kusman-Kelly, Director of Faith Formation, at formationdirector@sacredheartcos.org or 719-633-8711 x 105.

All children between the ages of 7 and 18 who have not been baptized will be guided through full initiation into the Catholic Church through the RCIC. Though the intent of the RCIC is to initiate children into the life of the Catholic Church, the process continues through Faith Formation programs for the years following their initiation. Learning and growing in the Catholic Faith is a lifelong process and one that requires a life dedicated to the teachings of Jesus Christ.

RCIC sessions begin in the Fall and conclude during the Easter season. These sessions are on Sunday mornings during Faith Formation starting in September, 10:10-11:25 am. Parents should attend the sessions with their child. During the sessions, the children learn key topics on the Catholic Faith and discuss questions on their hearts.

Sacramental Preparation

Reconciliation & First Holy Communion

Children wishing to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion in the second grade should enroll in Sacramental preparation classes. Preparation includes classroom instruction, parent information sessions, sacramental conversations with families and Faith Formation staff, and a retreat prior to receiving each sacrament. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is celebrated in a communal service in late January or early February. First Eucharist is celebrated during the Easter season. No more than 3 absences per year are allowed.

Volunteer Catechists

Please consider sharing in the faith formation of our children. If you would be interested in becoming a catechist or classroom assistant, contact the Faith Formation Office at 719-633-8711 x105 or email formationdirector@sacredheartcos.org.
